Technology That Helps Officers See and Respond
The right technology can help officers respond more effectively and make better-informed decisions.
In 2015, the Edina Police Department acquired a Mobile Surveillance Unit with funding from the Edina First Responders Fund.
The unit functions as a movable camera system that can be placed wherever additional visibility is needed. Dispatchers and officers can access its camera feed from dispatch or directly from their squad cars, allowing the department to observe an area and respond to activity as it happens.
Already in use in many cities across the country, this kind of mobile technology can help deter crime and support investigations. Because the system can be moved to different locations, it provides a flexible resource throughout Edina.
It is one example of how community donations can provide specialized resources beyond what standard city budgets may allow.
